1) HOW CAN I BECOME A CHRISTIAN?

Jesus answered this question with this answer: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 from New Living Translation). The apostle Paul summarized the teaching of Jesus this way: “God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it” (Ephesians 2:8-9). Believe that Jesus died in your place and offers you the gift of eternal life.

2) WHY SHOULD I GO TO CHURCH?

Church is a place of intimacy, insight and involvement. It is where you worship God with others, as well as walk the journey of life with others. In addition to intimacy with God and others, church is a place where you find answers to the most important questions of life. And church is a place where you can get involved in causes that help others.

3) ARE HURTING PEOPLE WELCOMED AT GEBC?

Some people think of church as a place only for people who have life put together. It isn’t! GEBC is the spiritual home of many who have found life to be a challenge that is hard to meet. If you are hurting, for whatever reason, you are welcome in our family. We have support groups that can encourage you in your time of difficulty.

4) CAN I CALL A STAFF MEMBER IF I HAVE A PROBLEM?

Our pastoral staff will do everything they can to help you. They will listen to you and pray with you. They also can refer you to others in the community who may be able to help if you have a particularly difficult issue. Give us a call.

5) DO I HAVE TO JOIN YOUR CHURCH TO ATTEND?

Many people attend GEBC without initially becoming formal members. You are welcome to attend as long as you need to in order to make a decision about membership.

6) WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE BAPTIZED ?

Baptism is like a wedding ring. It is a symbol of something that you have done. It says something about you. But it is just a symbol. You can wear a ring without being married, and you can be married without wearing a ring. You can be a Christian without being baptized, and you could be baptized without becoming a Christian. Baptism is the visible symbol of your invisible faith in Jesus Christ.

7) CAN I TAKE COMMUNION AT GEBC?

Communion is like a meal honoring a very special occasion. At communion, we eat and drink in order to remember the death of Jesus and His promise to return someday to earth. It is a time of both reflection and celebration. The only requirement for participation in communion is a personal faith in Christ. You do not have to be a member of GEBC to participate.

8) DO YOU HAVE A PLACE FOR DIVORCED PEOPLE LIKE ME?

Divorced people are welcomed at GEBC. One of the unfortunate realities of our society is the relational toll that marriages have experienced. While we do everything to encourage and build marital relationships, we also do everything we can to encourage and help those who have experienced the trauma of divorce.
